Daphne McPherson

Daphne Renee McPherson is a Biological Anthropology major, focusing on Disease Pathogens and Darwinian Theory, and is a sophomore attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Daphne's biggest accomplishment so far has been her entry into The Central States Anthropological Society (CSAS), which is an individual project of her major, in which she is currently working on a large project dealing with the Historical Demography of: Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Pittsburg from the early 1800's. When she is not working on Anthropological projects, she is volunteering within numerous organizations, like: preparing meals for the homeless within the Campus Kitchen program, mentoring within inner city community centers within the Summit program, and other volunteer programs like the senior ball, hunger clean-up, etc. When Daphne has time away from homework and other projects, she enjoys: rollerblading, ice skating and rhythmic dance (hip-hop). Daphne is also an active member of Marquette University's debate team for policy debate and has been for a year. Daphne, even though having only one year of policy debate, has a very rich debate history, which was acquired while in high school as she was on the debate team for three years within junior varsity and varsity positions.
Daphne attended John Hope College Preparatory High School in Chicago IL. where under parliamentary debate she has won numerous awards: including the Second Place JV Speaker award in 2003 and nationals in 2004. Daphne was also a member of the National Honors society throughout high school and other clubs. She was also a selected participant within three summer debate camp experiences at John F. Kennedy High School in Chicago IL. These camps were sponsored by Loyola University, and were very rewarding and memorable experiences for her within her high school years. Daphne has stated that, "the camps had great instructors that gave their time and hearts to the mentoring and strengthening of inner city children like myself to produce a generation of great debaters". She now feels blessed to have been offered the opportunity to give both: her time and heart, to future generations, the same as were given to her.
