About MU

Marquette University is a premier institution for academic scholarship and personal growth. Since 1880, Marquette has enjoyed a fine tradition for educating future leaders of tomorrow. Recently, the campus has undergone substantial development including the brand new state of the art $52 million Raynor Library the equally new and state of the art $21 million Al McGuire Center, as well as many other aesthetic improvements throughout the campus. As a place for learning and living, Marquette offers a communal campus feeling in the heart of a metropolitan area.

Libraries

Marquette's vast research environment is comprised of the Raynor Memorial Libraries, Science Library and Law Library, and MUDI participants have access to all of the materials housed at MU. The libraries house more than 1.5 million volumes, hundreds of research databases, computer access, laptops on loan, a CD and video collection, and library staffs who help researchers from around the world. Raynor Memorial Libraries offer a mix of comfortable seating and group study spaces, more than 200 computer stations and 24-hour, seven-days-a-week access to the main floor Information Commons during the semesters. Additionally, MUDI participants have access to the nearby Milwaukee Public Library and its comprehensive Government Document Depository.

College of Communication

For over two decades, the College of Communication has been the proud home of the annual Marquette University Debate Institute. The College of Communication advances knowledge and prepares students for intellectual, artistic, professional, ethical leadership in a complex technological and multi-cultural world. Following the Jesuit tradition, the College of Communication applies its resources and talents within an urban setting to improve the lives of visiting students, and the community at large. MUDI participants have full use of the College of Communication facilities in Johnston Hall.

Residential Life

Residents of MUDI will be housed in Cobeen Hall, located within one half-block of Johnston Hall, the College of Communication and location of all camp instruction and events. Cobeen Hall, a women's residence hall for freshmen during the regular school year, has rooms for 360 students with approximately 50 students living on each floor. Cobeen has eight floors and all the rooms are carpeted. There are two lounges on each floor for studying and socializing. Students and faculty of MUDI will reside in Cobeen Hall during the entire institute, with men and women separated by floor. All faculty reside in the dorms to provide a safe and secure environment. Upon arrival, students will need to put a security deposit down for their room key at registration (lost room keys will have a $50 replacement fee). Student room assignments will be random with two students in each room, and students will be expected to adhere strictly to the housing policies of both MUDI and Marquette University.
